Online Safety Bill

The Government promoted the UK’s Online Safety Bill as “world-leading” legislation that would make the country the safest place to be online. In reality, major loopholes meant the Bill delivered safety in name only.
At the same time, the UK signed the Declaration for the Future of the Internet, committing to protect democratic principles, human rights, and safe, equitable access to the web for all. The Bill, as drafted, fell far short of these ambitions — undermining the very freedoms it claimed to defend.
Our campaign challenged this gap between promise and reality, highlighting how the Bill failed to live up to the UK’s own stated principles.
